History
The Currie family
has been in business since 1949. It all started with a gas
station in Elmvale, Ontario. With a vision in his mind and the
nature of a true entrepreneur, Alex set out on a successful
course, which set the wheels in motion for the business you see
today.
The business
originated in Elmvale, which is some 15 minutes north of the
current Barrie location. In 1953, a General Motors dealership
was obtained, which continued successfully until the move to
Barrie. Throughout this time, the focus of the business evolved
to centre primarily on heavy-duty trucks.
When General
Motors sold their heavy truck business to Volvo-White, the
decision was made to move the heavy duty truck franchise to the
existing location. The facility that was built in 1989 was
designed with growth in mind and in fact seemed as though it
might never be filled. Two additions later, we now have a total of
40,000 sq. feet of space. Since the move in 1989, our staff
has more than tripled in size.
In 2003, the
addition of a second location in Alliston was realized. The
facility in Alliston is very similar to the size of the original
Barrie location and currently houses 16 staff members.
A source of pride
to all who contribute to Currie Truck Centre, is the receipt of
Freightliner’s Pinnacle award, which we have won three years of
the five it has been offered. The award is for excellence in
customer service and is offered both regionally and for “Best In
Canada.” In 2002, we received the “Best In Canada” award for the
first time.
The heritage of
the business is a source of pride, built on the foundation of
excellence in customer service. This principle has allowed the
company to reach the tremendous levels of growth to date. |
